Molten Chocolate Lava Cake

  • 1/2 Cup (1 Stick) Unsalted Butter

  • 1/2 Cup Water
  • Cooking Spray or Butter
  • Two Microwave-Safe Containers
  • Four 5 oz Ramekins
  • Wire Whisk
  • 2 qt. Mixing Bowl

Baking Instructions

  • 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees and coat sides and bottoms of ramekins thoroughly with butter or cooking spray.

  • 2. Melt butter. Place contents of cake mix in bowl. Add melted butter and water. Whisk until smooth.
  • 3. Melt contents of Bittersweet Chocolate packet in microwave-safe container on high for 1-2 minutes until melted. Stir once after partially melted. Whisk melted chocolate into cake mixture until well blended.
  • 4. Divide mixture among the four ramekins. Bake on middle rack of preheated oven at 375 degrees for 13-15 minutes.
  • 5. Remove from oven and run a sharp, thin knife around the cake edges to loosen them.
  • 6. Immediately grip ramekin securely by rim edge using a non-slip hot pad (e.g. silicon) and place plate on top of ramekin and invert. Carefully remove ramekin.
  • 7. Garnish and serve immediately. Chocolate lava flows best when cake is warm.
